Rail passengers and commuters in the Wetterau area of Hesse are facing major disruption from today as Deutsche Bahn carries out extensive construction work on several routes. The works include track renewal, cable installation and upgrades at level crossings.

The regional lines RB46, RB47 and RB48 are particularly affected. On RB46, trains between Nidda and Gelnhausen will not run from 5 to 18 October. A replacement bus service is already operating between Giessen and Nidda and is currently expected to remain in place until 12 December.

RB47 services between Friedberg and Woelfersheim-Soedel are suspended from 5 October until 8 November. Disruption on RB48 between Friedberg and Nidda will last even longer, until 12 December. In addition, trains on this line to and from Frankfurt Central Station are cancelled from 5 to 16 October.

A significant part of the work is taking place around Nidda station, where tracks are being renewed and several level crossings are being worked on. Replacement buses have been arranged for affected sections.

Passengers are advised to check their connection before travelling and allow extra time, particularly when changing between trains and replacement buses.
